Katherine Heigl is open about being raised in "a white bubble." The actress also discusses the impact that this realization has had on the parenting style of her adoptees who are multi-racial. The actress "Firefly Lane" told an interviewer that it didn't matter what color her skin was to her. However, after meeting her adopted Korean American older sister, she noticed the differences in how people treated her and her. "I inquired of my sister, Meg whether she'd received the same treatment when she went out in public with our parents and a different way in the time she was on her own without anyone else. She replied "Oh, yes, every occasion!" It made me realize I had been so naive," Heigl said to her parents. She said that she was angry and felt that it was important to focus her anger on helping the adopted children she has. Sheigl's husband Josh Kelley and their son Joshua Bishop Kelley Jr., 4, have been married for 13 years. They have adopted Nancy Leigh (age 12) from South Korea and Adalaide (age 8) with a black complexion, in 2009.
